Our first business plan!

OMG!  Where do I begin? I must say that so far, writing a business plan has been a very challenging and eye-opening activity.  Justin and I decided that we wanted to first focus on a business in the entertainment/recreational industry.  Since I have never written a business plan (unlike Mr. Serial-Entrepreneur-Himself), I decided to give it a try solo before I called in the cavalry to come save me.  I found a very thorough business plan template on the SBA site, and everyday I work on a little piece of it.  With the obvious complexity of the financial sections, I have found the competitive analysis to be slightly difficult as well.

While doing a little snooping on the site, I also found an online business planning course here.  It is an audio/visual presentation that takes you through the thought process of starting a business.  I believe that you can never have too much useful information…so long as it isn’t redundant.  I don’t know about you, but I sure as heck don’t need 10 articles on sales forecasting.  My all-time favorite tool on the site is the interactive business planner.  Its an online resource form provided by the Canada business services for entrepreneurs.  This handy planner guides you through your business plan through a series of questions.

Recognizing a piece of history…

Bizzyness would like to send out a warm congratulations to President-Elect Barack Obama!  It is with great honor and humility that we acknowledge this moment in history that we were able to experience not only with each other, but with fellow Americans and the world.  We look forward to the possibilities that come with any new leader and the steps this historic event means to healing of our nation on the human level.  This is definitely one for the books that we will share with our children and grandchildren.  Stay tuned for an account of our trip to Washington, D.C. for the inauguration on January 20th, 2009.

In keeping with the spirit of our site, Bizzyness would like to recognize Barack and Michelle Obama for being such an outstanding Power Couple.  Their love shines through and through, but their dedication to each other’s success can not be ignored.

Discussion Question

Divorce rates tend to increase during times of recession, unemployment, etc.  According to Legal Zoom, during a brief recession in 1997, the number of divorces rose 16.9 percent, and 255 couples were divorcing every day during that year . What does supporting your mate mean to you these tough economic times?  And what coping strategies do you suggest to other couples?
